Suffragists Project Credits

Sherna Berger Gluck, professor emeritus at California State University, Long Beach, compiled the original suffragists material in the 1970s and produced an educational booklet and slideshow. In 2009, she allowed the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Oral History Program to create this Jukebox program from that material. Ms. Gluck, founded the community-based Feminist History Research Project (FHRP) in 1972, and immediately began to collect oral histories of women who had been active participants in the suffrage and labor movements. In 1977, after she began to teach in women's studies at California State University, Long Beach, and established the Oral History Program there, she deposited her FHRP interviews there. These, along with the women's oral history interviews she and her students conducted, are all available online at the Virtual Oral/Aural History Archive of CSULB: www.csulb.edu/voaha. In addition to her book of interviews with some of the suffragists featured in this presentation (From Parlor to Prison), Gluck is the author of Rosie the Riveter Revisited: Women, the War and Social Change and An American Feminist in Palestine, and the co-editor of Women's Words: The Feminist Practice of Oral History.
