Elaine Meader McCausland

Elaine Meader McCausland was born in Massachusetts. She married her husband, Fred Meader, in 1954, who she met while attending nursing school in Boston. In the 1960s and 1970s, Elaine and Fred lived with their children at a remote lake in the Brooks Range. They lived a simple life and chose to live off the land as much as possible. After her son's tragic drowning at the lake and later her husband's accidental death, Elaine left Alaska, earned a PhD in psychology, and moved to northern California.
