Anne Hatch

Originally from Wisconsin, Anne Hatch came to Seward, Alaska in 1946 to teach English at the high school. She had previously graduated from Gustavus Adolphus, a Lutheran college in Minnesota, and taught school for three years in Minnesota. She met her husband, Ralph, at a Rainbow Girls dance in Seward, and they married in 1948. After her five children were old enough, Anne returned to teaching, and this time she taught second and third grades until she retired. Anne contributed greatly to the community of Seward: she was organist for Seward Memorial United Methodist Church; directed the choir and bell choir; provided music for many Seward weddings and funerals; and served on the boards of Wesleyan Nursing Home (now Mountain Haven) and the Senior Center. Anne Hatch passed away in June 2021. For more about her, see her obituary in the Anchorage Daily News newspaper.

Ralph and Anne Hatch	Ralph and Anne Hatch were interviewed on May 10, 2011 by Rachel Mason and Karen Brewster at their home in Seward, Alaska. In this interview, the Hatches talk about Ralph's growing up at the Jessie Lee Home, life in Seward in earlier days, and the 1964 Earthquake. Ralph talks about his father's cabin at Black Point and other cabins in the area, hunting in the Seward area, and expeditions on the Harding Icefield.
