Denali National Park and Preserve is a six million acre national wildlife reserve surrounding Mount McKinley.  The  original national preserve, Mount McKinley National Park, was created in 1917.  A seperate Denali National Monument was proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter in 1979.  In 1980, the Mount McKinley National Park combined with the Denali National Momument  to create the Denali National Park and Preserve.
