Millie Buck

Millie Buck

Millie Buck is from Chitina, Alaska and is an active member of the Chitina Native Corporation. Her mother, Margaret Eskilida, also lives in Chitina. Millie was raised in the Chitina area and grew up practicing subsistence activities with her family when she was a young girl. Millie is well known as a pioneer in the bilingual and multi-cultural areas of education and contributed a great deal to the research, teaching, and publishing of Native language materials. In 1977, she was named Alaska Native Woman of the Year by the Alaska Federation of Natives. Mille Buck died in 2011.
