Don Ronda

Raised in Michigan, Don Ronda first came to Homer, Alaska in 1956 as a visitor, but was so enamored with the town and the people that he soon returned to live there. He obtained his teaching degree at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, got a job teaching in the village of Naknek, and then in 1962 became the principal of Homer High School. He served on the Homer City Council, the Homer Advisory Planning Commission, and the Port and Harbor Commission. He was a commercial fisherman, and helped operated Beluga Charters, one of Homer's first charter boat businesses. Don passed away in September 2012.
