Luise Wolflein

Luise Wolflein

Having grown up on the East Coast of the United States and in Japan, Luise Wolflein came to Alaska in 1996 after earning a bachelor's degree in biology from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and a master's degree in environmental studies from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies (now the Yale School of the Environment) in New Haven, Connecticut. She worked for non-profit conservation organizations, as a teacher, and as an environmental educator. From 2002 until her retirement in 2024, Luise worked as the Public Programs and Statewide Support Coordinator at the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Campbell Creek Science Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this role, she helped develop, plan, and teach in the Iditarod Trail in Every Classroom (iREC!) program, which is a professional development program for K-12 teachers based on the application of place-based and service learning techniques. In addition, she oversaw public programs and events at the Science Center, helped interpret the history of the Iditarod National Historic Trail, and supported education and outreach at all BLM offices in Alaska.
