Project Jukebox Survey
Help us redesign the Project Jukebox website by taking a very short survey!
Stella Krumrey is Alutiiq and was born on November 10, 1947 to Nina and Nikenti Zeder in the village of Old Harbor on Kodiak Island, Alaska. She grew up in the village of Kaguyak until 1964 when it was destroyed by the Great Alaska Earthquake and the family moved permanently to Old Harbor. After completing her GED and taking a few community college courses, Stella became a community health representative (CHR) in 1980. She eventually became the village's community health aide and went to Anchorage for training, and then became the clinic manager working for the Kodiak Area Native Association (KANA). Stella is fluent in her Native Alutiiq language and has worked to preserve her language and culture.
