Bill Burke

Bill Burke was a research technician in the Oral History Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He developed the Fairbanks Project Jukebox, the Pioneer Miners of Alaska Project Jukebox, the Gileech'agarohookhyaa Shro ' (Don't Forget the Past) Project Jukebox of photographs from Venetie, Alaska, and the Raven's Story Project Jukebox. Working as part of a team, he also was involved in developing the the Holy Cross Community Jukebox, the Nanwalek and Port Graham Project Jukeboxes, and the Kiana Village History Project Jukebox. Bill also conducted oral history interviews for various projects.

Hazel Apok	2002-09-13	Kiana Village History Project	Hazel Apok was interviewed on April 3, 2002 by Bill Burke in Fairbanks, Alaska while she was in town working with the Project Jukebox team at the University of Alaska Fairbanks on the Kiana Village History Project Jukebox. In this interview, Hazel talks about growing up in Kiana, getting an education, and learning to live a traditional subsistence lifestyle. She discusses changes she has seen in the environment and with the animal populations, as well as how the community of Kiana has changed through time and he younger generations are faced with new challenges. She also talks about hunting, trapping, and traditional Native food.
