Carl Geffe

Carl "Ivivik" Geffe was born in 1933 in Kiana, Alaska. Carl grew up in Kiana and at age sixteen joined the Alaska National Guard. He went to Nome, Alaska for training as a non-commisioned officer in charge (NCOIC), and then he and Roger Atoruk organized the first National Guard unit in Kiana. From February 29 to March 2, 1996, Carl participated in the Communities of Memory public storytelling event held in Kotzebue where local residents spoke about their memories of and experiences related to the military. Carl Geffe passed away in 2001.
