Sue Entsminger

Sue Entsminger was born and raised on a farm in Newport, Pennsylvania. Living on a farm, she enjoyed a rural lifestyle and liked the outdoors and hunting. Sue came to Alaska in 1973 with her first husband and their son, who was three years old at the time. Sue met Frank Entsminger at his taxidermy shop in Fairbanks, when she went in looking for a job. Eventually, Frank and Sue married and in 1977 they moved to the Tok Cutoff near Tok, Alaska where they still live. They live a subsistence-based lifestyle relying on hunting, fishing and trapping. Sue has worked as a hunting guide, as a commercial fisherman, has helped with her husband's taxidermy business, and since 1983 has sewn and sold hand-made fur hats. She also has been involved with local and regional hunting management by serving on the Fish and Game Advisory Commitee for the Tok Cutoff/Nabesna Road and the State of Alaska Board of Game.

Frank and Sue Entsminger, Part 1	Frank and Sue Entsminger were interviewed on April 22, 2015 by Barbara Cellarius and Leslie McCartney at their home on the Tok Cutoff Road near Tok, Alaska. In this first part of a two part interview, Frank and Sue talk about their personal backgrounds, interest in the outdoors and hunting, and coming to Alaska. They also talk about their hunting, guiding, and trapping, as well as changes in wildlife populations they have observed. Individually, Frank talks about his taxidermy business and becoming a bronze sculptor. Frank and Sue Entsminger, Part 2	This is a continuation of an interview with Frank and Sue Entsminger on April 22, 2015 by Barbara Cellarius and Leslie McCartney at their home on the Tok Cutoff Road near Tok, Alaska. In this second part of a two part interview, Frank and Sue talk about creation of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, finding ways to make a living, and changes in the nearby communities.
