Mark Cosson

Mark Cosson went to work at KUAC as a documentary video producer in January 2000. His production credits include: Merging Destinies, If We Dance: The Story of the Intertribal Pow Wow, Inside Alaska, and Live from the Aurora. In his spare time, Mark collects antique cars and trucks and works as an engineer on an historic steam locomotive in Fairbanks Pioneer Park.

Carl Mulvihill, Interview 1	AAF 10210-10211	Railroads of Alaska	Carl Mulvihill was interviewed in July 2003 by Mark Cosson in Skagway, Alaska for the KUAC-TV Documentary "Klondike and Alaska: A Rail History." In this interview, he talks about the history of the Whitepass and Yukon Route Railroad between Skagway, Alaska and Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Canada. He also discusses who built the railroad and why, hardships and obstacles during construction, survival of the railroad and impact of World War II, use of the rotary to clear snow from the tracks, the company’s pioneering development of containerization for shipping, and the transition from a freight line to a tourist train.
Ron Simpson	AAF-10213	Railroads of Alaska	Ron Simpson was interviewed on September 18, 2003 by Mark Cosson in Copper Center, Alaska for the KUAC-TV Documentary “Klondike and Alaska: A Rail History.” He talks about the history of the Copper River Northwestern Railway. He discusses why the railroad was built and by whom, its hauling of copper ore and passengers between Kennecott and Cordova, engineering and construction of the route, relationship with steamships, construction of steel bridges, impacts of the railroad on the Native population, the demise of the railroad, and his construction of a replica model railroad.
Ron Engstrom	AAF 10215-10216	Railroads of Alaska	Ron Engstrom was interviewed in September 2003 by Mark Cosson in Nome, Alaska for the KUAC-TV Documentary "Klondike and Alaska: A Rail History." In this interview, Ron talks about his boyhood memories and history of the railroads in the Nome area. He also talks about the various rail lines in the Nome area and where they went, how they were used, his memories of the railroads still being used when he was a boy to transport passengers, ore and freight to and from the mines, the types of equipment used, laying track on permafrost, and the demise of these railroads. He also talks about his family history, mining at Basin Creek, and dredge mining.
Larry Powell	AAF-10218	Railroads of Alaska	Larry Powell was interviewed in June 2004 by Mark Cosson in Yakutat, Alaska for the KUAC-TV Documentary "Klondike and Alaska: A Rail History." He talks about the history of the Yakutat and Southern Railroad that ran from the Situk River to a fish cannery in Yakutat. He discusses how and why the railroad was built and financed, its hauling of fish and passengers, the impact of World War II, the lifespan of the railroad, and the history of its surviving locomotive.
