Aliy Zirkle

Aliy Zirkle is the first woman to win the 1000-mile Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race. She was born in New Hampshire and spent her childhood in Puerto Rico and St. Louis, Missouri.  Aliy graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with dual degrees in biology and anthropology.  At age 20, she moved to Alaska and began dog mushing in Bettles, Alaska.  She regularly competes in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and the Yukon Quest. Aliy and her husband Allen Moore operate Skunk Place Kennel, where they raise and train their sled dogs.
