Urban Rahoi

Urban Rahoi

Originally from upper Michigan, Urban Rahoi came to Alaska in 1947. He learned to fly in 1934 and joined the United States Air Force in 1942 where he flew B-17's during World War II. He is a pilot, big game hunting guide, lodge owner, and Fairbanks business man. Urban has been a licensed hunting guide in Alaska since 1950, and in the early 1950's he built Ptarmigan Lake Lodge in the Wrangell-St. Elias Mountains near the Canada/Alaska border. He has used this as a base of operations for his hunting trips, especially for guided sheep hunting expeditions. He also developed the Lakeview Terrace trailer park in south Fairbanks and has served on the Fairbanks Borough Assembly. At age 95, Urban still owns the lodge and continues to fly his airplane and go on hunting trips.
