Gil Mull, Interview 1, Part 1 |
Gil Mull was interviewed in his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico on October 20 and 21, 2004 by Karen Brewster. Gil and his wife, Yvonne, moved to Santa Fe after he retired in 2003 from the State of Alaska, Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys, Division of Oil and Gas. In this interview, Gil talked about the geologic history of the Brooks Range and the North Slope, geologic maps of the region, the oil exploration program, the discovery of oil at Prudhoe Bay, doing geological fieldwork in the Gates of the Arctic National Park and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge areas, and changes resulting from the establishment of the park. The last day of the interview, Gil sat at his laptop computer and narrated a Powerpoint presentation titled "The Road to Prudhoe Bay: Geological Exploration of the Alaskan North Slope, 1900-1975" that he had previously created for a public lecture.
