Narrow margin between solid ice and thin ice near Sam Charley Island

Knut Kielland uses an ice pick on a long pole to test ice thickness and safety. He shows that while the ice and snow may appear the same on the surface, there is a narrow margin between where the ice is solid and where he breaks through thin ice to open water below.
