Justice James Fitzgerald was nominated to the U.S. District Court for Alaska by U.S. President Gerald Ford in 1975, and was ultimately confirmed by the U.S. Senate. After sixteen years as a jurist for the Alaska Court System (1959-1975), he would continue to serve on the federal bench for 31 years (1975-2006).
