Description:
Seversen's gas boat, the Tern, at Seversen's dock at the Roadhouse, Iliamna Lake, mid-1930's. The boat was built in San Francisco for Hans Seversen, and Naknek Packing Company brought the boat up to Alaska and did finish work on it at the dock at Naknek Packing. The boat was between 32' and 40' long, wider astern. It had a 40 or 50 HP 3-cylinder Palmer gas engine. Hans transported the first documented sporthunters into the Lake Clark/Iliamna country, Colonel A. J. "Sandy" Macnab and Frederick K. Vreeland, in his boat the Snake.
Listen to John Branson talk about the photo.
