Description:
George Hayden taking a bath in a net soaking tub, Cook Inlet. The large wooden casks were used to regularly soak the tierce-linen nets in Bluestone or copper sulfite, a disinfectant, in order to prevent bacteria from accumulating on the nets and causing them to rot.
Listen to John Swiss talk about the photo.
