Ice Add On

Description:
Newly formed thin ice (sikuliaq) adds on to older, thicker shorefast ice (tuvaq). Notice that the snowmachine trail coming in from the right abruptly ends where the two types of ice connect together. This indicates that there was other ice there previously which had been part of the trail that moved out, leaving behind open water, and has only recently refrozen into young ice. Iiguaq is the Iñupiaq word for "ice that is added or pressed onto the edge of shorefast ice."
