Maye Ahmaogak Panigeo was Iñupiaq and born in 1925 to Isabel and Roy Ahmoagak in Barrow, Alaska (now known as Utqiaġvik). She married Henry Panigeo around 1945 and they had six children. In the 1980's, Maye was an Iñupiaq language translator for the Chipp-Ikpikpuk and Meade Rivers Oral History Project. She is also known for her sewing talents, making beautiful parkas, fur hats, boots, and slippers. Her daughter, Eileen Panigeo MacLean served as a member of the Alaska House of Representatives from 1989 to 1996.
