Leo was born to Tommy (Isaac Jackson's oldest brother, Henry's father) and Emily Oney Jackson on January 6, 1936 in Noatak, Alaska. His mother was from Marshall, Alaska. He spent the first five years of his life in Noatak and Kotzebue, after which he moved to Kiana. Leo had six brothers and sisters: Rena, Sammy, Freddy, Gilbert, Flora and Dora. Dora is his only living sibling. Leo did not marry and has no children, but he has held quite a few jobs and lived in several different places besides Kiana. His formal education consisted of completing 6th grade in Kiana and 7th grade at White Mountain. When he was in the 7th grade his father became ill and he had to leave school to return to Kiana to help his mother and family. Leo left Kiana and worked at a Fairbanks mining camp and later as a civil servant at Eielson Air Force Base. In 1958, he joined the U.S. Army, completed boot camp at Fort Ord and was later stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington. For a time he also lived in Seattle. Leo has worked for the City of Kiana as an Operator for the Light Plant, Water & Sewer Plants, and the Fuel Farm. For a number of years, he was a member of the Kiana Bluff Jumpers Search & Rescue. Recently he has become involved in the Kiana Elders Council.
