Adam Leavitt (Qapqan) was interviewed on January 23, 1983 by William Schneider and Wendy Arundale in his home in Atqasuk, Alaska for the Chipp-Ikpikpuk and Meade Rivers Oral History Project. In this first part of a two part interview, Adam talks about his family background, his father, George Leavitt, and his father's trade activities in the Cape Halkett, Colville River, and Prudhoe Bay areas along the Beaufort Sea coast.
